Aside from making me fall in love with this book all over again, re-reading The Instructions has been gratifying because some things I had thought were themes but wasn’t quite sure about, and was worried I was completely wrong about, turn out to be REALLY UNSUBTLY TELEGRAPHED all over the place
Except when a branch changes the flow of control, instructions are executed in the order in which they are bound contain only constants. This is also true of all the tribes of Israel
For those of you on here who expressed interest in the reading group for The Instructions, my tentative schedule is below the cut.
(I’m specifically addressing aloadedspiralgalaxy and luckywanderboy here – this will all be old/irrelevant info to kafkanaut and blurds since they are Facebook friends as well as tumblr friends)
Note that the first reading goal (get to p. 73) is set for Feb. 16. I said earlier that the group would start “around the 14th” and I hope this isn’t too short notice.
Also, this is the first time I’ve tried to get tumblr people into this – they’ve previously happened solely on Facebook – and I’m not entirely sure how I want to integrate the two sites. I don’t want to post links back and forth because I like to keep my Facebook persona and my tumblr/“internet” persona relatively separate, so I may have to ask you to friend me on Facebook if you want to participate. (I can send you contact info if you message me. I know a lot of people dislike Facebook, and I wouldn’t be asking you to be a Facebook friend in any larger sense if you don’t want to – e.g. you could make a blank profile solely for the purpose of the reading group if you’re more comfortable with that.)
