adzolotl asked: Are there audio versions of Floornight or TNC? Would you like there to be? A friend of mine is trying to get started as a narrator and looking for interesting (free) work to do.

Someone started recording an audio version of TNC a little while ago, but I haven’t heard back about it since then.  There are no versions of either available to the public at this time, and I happily endorse people making them (with the obvious caveats, don’t sell them etc).

I’m guessing it’s monospaced?

Oh yeah, duh, that’s probably it.  In particular, it’s a monospaced serif font, which I’m not used to seeing in any context except this one.

The book is a library book and was published by a Chinese publisher, so maybe it’s standard to do this for Roman alphabet books in China.

adzolotl asked: (reading Floornight now) You had me at "Boltzmen". Reminds me of Greg Egan -- Permutation City, many stories, "The Infinite Assassin" especially. I identify with Ratio. I'm recording typos as I read, out of habit. You want them?

Glad you’re enjoying it.  I like Greg Egan, more or less (I liked Distress more than Permutation City).

When you’re done I would love to see the typo list, although I’ve committed to not revising the story at all until some future thorough editing pass, since I don’t want to constantly be making minor changes that I then have to propagate to the various existing versions, like the ebooks.

adzolotl asked: Awesome. (I just finished copyediting 700 pages of AP Physics review book, so I'm still kind of in edit-mode.) Are you by chance a P K Dick fan? Heard of his Exegesis?

Yeah, I like Dick (lol) and his life is definitely one inspiration for TNC.  I loved VALIS and have read bits of the Exegesis itself, though not much (it is very long and rambling).

adzolotl asked: I'm Going Into The Caves. The Semi-Lucid Section ends on page 85, the Non-Lucid Section begins on page 81. Is the overlap deliberate?

Nope!  Nice catch, thanks.  (I changed it to page 85 in both cases.  Being able to do things like this makes me feel oddly godlike)

adzolotl asked: Should I read Floornight before TNC? Does it matter?

Doesn’t matter.  They’re unrelated and my impression is that people find TNC easier to get into.

adzolotl asked: "people do sometimes use “fake safewords” meant to be not listened to, as a fetish thing" Have you actually met someone who's done this? I haven't, but keep seeing vague references to it, and it appeals to my sense of meta. (I used a kink safeword in a conversation once, to mean "seriously, drop it". I think it was about religion. Go figure.)

I have never met anyone who did this, but I think I’ve read accounts of people doing it in sources that sounded credible?
