Unfortunately not (yet! growth mindset!) – she has been visiting me since the start of the month and will go back to England on Saturday. But she is here now!

The reason I posted that sketch (apart from it being funny) is that it caused me to have a very funny-in-retrospect anxiety dream.
I was reading a thing on Rob’s Kindle because amazon would not let customers from the UK buy it, and I somehow accidentally changed the font to jokerman font. In an attempt to change the font to a more sensible one, I pressed something that said “permanent font” (figuring this was a font less silly than jokerman) but what it did was make the jokerman font permanent, and there was no way to fix it. I contacted amazon customer services and they said there was no way I could reverse this.
At this point, Rob saw what I had done, said “you ruined my kindle” and broke up with me.
(Of course, Rob has reassured me that irl iodised salt is strong enough to withstand the jokerman font.)
In response to this, out of curiosity about what it would look like, I tried putting all of Floornight in Jokerman font. It turns out it has pretty cool-looking brackets:

Esther: It is human nature to want an infinite number of assholes …
I think it’s better to talk about sex than about iodized salt.

everyone constantly talks about sex, nobody talks about iodized salt, even though salt iodization was probably one of the most impactful public health measures of the last century
In context it meant “better in this case,” not “better in general,” with the perspective that they were both worthy of being talked about in general

I was skyping Rob, our conversation turned to depressing things and then I said “that’s enough of that, let’s talk about something happy.” And then I tried to think about something happy and because I had recently seen this article shared on facebook I said “iodised salt!” and then I felt that maybe this was insufficiently romantic, so I said “also sex.”
Anyway, I was not on tumblr but Rob told me about this post.
And now the ship name of me/Rob is iodised salt (Rob has agreed to this.)
So, yeah. Iodised salt(the actual thing) is very important! Iodised salt (the ship) is probably less important in terms of total world utility but a much more strongly weighted component of my utility function and sex is really awesome but probably gets too much emphasis from society as a whole and not everybody wants to have sex.
Also Rob is great. HAVE YOU SEEN HIS FACE IT IS SO GOOD AT BEING A FACE HOW IS IT EVEN LEGAL TO HAVE SUCH A GOOD FACE LOOKING AT HIS FACE IS JUST A FLOOD OF YUMMY BRAIN CHEMICALS. And he writes good things. And he is SMART and KIND and BRAVE and FUNNY and he tries to be good to everyone not just the people who it is easy with and he made a fandom for books that don’t exist and HAVE YOU SEEN HIS FACE?
