In retrospect, his answer:

2) He is also a dog who happens to have been genetically engineered by an agent of Derse.

…was exactly the same.  At that point, Bec’s motives were unclear, but now we clearly see that his love for Jade was an especially potent driving factor, and that those under the influence of the Bec-prototyped ring have absolutely no qualms with attacking or killing agents or soldiers of Derse, unlike Vriska had hoped with her actions in convincing the agents to ectobiologize Becquerel.

I see your point, but this isn’t a knock-down argument because prototype-influenced entities (sprites and ring-wearers) don’t inherit all the characteristics of the prototyped entity.  The ring Jack wears also has Jaspers and a crow prototyped onto it, but he doesn’t seem to think like a crow or a cat at all.  In sprites prototyped with animals and people, the human side seems to dominate completely, with the exception of occasional involuntary animal noises.

The rules for what should carry over in these mixtures are not clear, and probably boil down to “whatever is interesting or funny.”  So Jack inherited a bunch of dog traits from Bec because it’s funny and interesting to see the vicious bad guy act like an innocent dog who slavishly loves his owner, and because it serves an important plot function by keeping the B1 kids relatively safe from Jack before the critical moment.  Should he also necessarily inherit all of Bec’s attitudes toward Dersites?  Well, probably not; Jack already has his own attitudes toward his fellow Dersites (they’re most of his backstory).  We’re going on “what makes the story better” rules here, rather than anything more precisely specified.

So basically I don’t think the “genetically engineered by an agent of Derse” idea has ever been disproven.
