Explained: deactivate your almonds meme

• The idea of almonds being “activated” has been the source of jokes since 2012, as noted in an entry on Know Your Meme.
  
• These jokes spread to Tumblr. For example, a text post from 4 February 2017 states, “nice going dude you deactivated my almonds”.
• However, in August 2017, the phrase “deactivate your almonds” crystallised into a meme.
• On 11 August 2017, Tumblr user @egowave stated, “deactivate ur almonds” in a thread about Lenin being sapiosexual. 
• This created discourse that the phrase “deactivate your almonds” was suicide baiting, similar to the phrase pee your pants. 
• Later, Tumblr user @egowave made a separate post and claimed that the phrase is not suicide baiting.
