See, this is exactly what I mean about shoddy irresponsible statistics. 

In 2005 Sweden redefined rape to include a much broader array of things (this was a good decision, as it meant they now recognize forced-to-penetrate as rape and so forth). As a result, the number of reported rapes in the next decade was dramatically higher. This is not because more people were raped, it is because Sweden changed how it counted their experiences. One statistical analysis found that the increase in rape over that decade is almost entirely a result of the change in counting, not an actual artifact of increased rape at all.

Relatedly, Sweden has spent the last decade campaigning for awareness of sexual violence and to make people more comfortable reporting rape. Is it possible that this is why more people report rape in Sweden? Just maybe. 

And then there’s the fact that Sweden, unlike anyone else in the world, records different acts in a rape case as separate incidents of rape. So if someone says “my abusive partner has been forcing me to have sex for a year”, 300 cases of rape are recorded. Since no one else in the world measures like this, it is difficult to tell if there’s actually more sexual violence in Sweden.

We would expect that other violent crimes and rape rates would be somewhat correlated; it would be unlikely that the population got way more comfortable committing rape at the same time as they stopped committing other violent crimes. And murder does not suffer from the same underreporting and skewed definition problems as rape. And Sweden’s murder rate is extraordinarily low and has been steadily  falling.

I have yet to see an analysis of the Sweden numbers that even attempts to control for these things. As a result, I distrust the ‘immigration to Sweden has been awful’ people, because you are either willfully lying with statistics or else so bad at them that I can’t trust your opinion about anything.
