Then we had one of our weekly meetings were the topic came up: should we even be supporting poison.
I differ from Lord Dacre in many respects but can say here only that the “opacity” of my “Cave” is deliberate and hermeneutic and may or may not be lightened in Volume III which in any case will deal with most of the topics Lord Dacre found missing from Volume II.
In 1980 at the age of 67, [Hugh Trevor-Roper] became Master of Peterhouse, the oldest and smallest college in the University of Cambridge. His election, which surprised his friends, was engineered by a group of Fellows led by Maurice Cowling, then the leading Peterhouse historian. The Fellows chose him because Cowling’s reactionary clique thought he would be an arch-conservative who would oppose the admission of women. In the event, Trevor-Roper feuded constantly with Cowling and his allies, while launching a series of administrative reforms. Women were admitted in 1983 at his urging.

Just FYI, Briar The-Thrill-Be-Damned has deleted their blog but in fact They Are Definitely Alive, or at least I assume so from the conversations we’ve had; I guess they could be the kind of ghost that can use a computer and appreciate Shoujo Cosette episodes, but that seems unlikely as I’ve heard it’s pretty hard to type with ectoplasm fingers.
They’re gonna be okay and nobody needs to worry about their safety or anything right now; they just need to sort out some personal stuff away from social media in general, and tumblr in particular, for a while. They’ve actually been making a lot of positive personal changes lately, and I’m proud of them for that.
They don’t have a new blog and won’t be reading tumblr much for a while. If people want to keep following their art they have an instagram, which is briardraws; it’s not updated all that much at the moment but if they do make new art posts it’ll probably be there.

In 2014, former CIA and NSA director Michael Hayden said in a public debate, “We kill people based on metadata.”According to multiple reports and leaks, death-by-metadata could be triggered, without even knowing the target’s name, if too many derogatory checks appear on their profile. “Armed military aged males” exhibiting suspicious behavior in the wrong place can become targets, as can someone “seen to be giving out orders.” Such mathematics-based assassinations have come to be known as “signature strikes.”“When I learned about signature strikes, that was incredible,” Faisal says. “If the criteria is being armed or having a beard – that is everyone in Yemen.”

With Reprieve’s help, Kareem did what the system asks a law-abiding American citizen with a grievance to do. He sued, filing a complaint in district court in Washington, D.C., on March 30th, 2017, asking the U.S. government to take him off the Kill List, at least until he had a chance to challenge the evidence against him.
This is an amazing Rolling Stone article about a U.S. citizen and journalist who has survived five drone strikes and is suing the U.S. government to try to get them to remove him from the Kill List.
“So [your] argument is that if, A, we didn’t have anything to do with it… but if we did, we did so only because of a determination that – and I’ll talk about Mr. Kareem, because he’s the one with constitutional rights – that Mr. Kareem was a grave threat to national security and the executive gets to make that determination, not a court.”
